A 5-Star Mountain Lake Resort in Taiwan

By John J. Teng, P.E.

Sun Moon Lake, Taiwan's largest lake, Sun Moon Lake is located in the mountains of Nantou at the geographic center of Taiwan island.[1] Sun Moon Lake actually surrounds a tiny island that is called Lalu. The east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west side resembles a moon, hence the name. In addition, the lake and its surrounding countryside have been designated one of thirteen national scenic areas in Taiwan.[2]

And this hideaway spot located on the top of the mountains is the location of arguably one the most beautiful resorts and spas in the entire world. I took this from the front lobby balcony of the 5-star luxury Lalu Hotel at Sun Moon Lake during one of my stays at this unforgettable hotel. This amazing contemporary hotel is located next to a majestic mountain lake with a view that a photograph cannot fully convey how spectacular this view is of the surrounding scenery.

Here’s a video of the beautiful Sun Moon Lake landscape on a rainy Summer day:

Even the effort getting to the hotel adds to your appreciation of hos special this hidden away gem really is. With a mountain roadway climb of endless switch backs make sure to bring whatever you use to handle motion sickness if that is something you are susceptible to. But the instant that you arrive at the front entrance, your mind and body will naturally and immediately shift to Zen mode. I have been fortunate to travel to many beautiful parts of the world and to have stayed in some of the very nicest hotels in those areas, but where most of the best hotels deliberately try to create a feeling a calm and peacefulness for their guest, the Lalu Hotel is just simply Zen by its very nature.

I have added some beautiful photos and a video below to help illustrate just how magnificent this hotel and surrounding landscape looks.

This pathway leads to the front lobby with Sun Moon situated to the left in this photo. Notice the beautiful infinity pool along the front entrance walkway.

This side of the hotel faces Sun Moon lake and has an infinity pool located at base of the hotel overlooking the lake.
